Protect Your Card. Protect Your Money.

Protect Your Card. Protect Your Money.

Fraud can happen in seconds – but smart habits last a lifetime.

In today’s digital world, your card is more than just plastic – it’s your gateway to your hard-earned money. And while the convenience of card payments and online banking is undeniable, it also brings the risk of fraud.

At Carrick-on-Suir Credit Union, your security is our priority. That’s why we’re sharing practical tips to help you spot scams, protect your card details, and know exactly what to do if something doesn’t seem right.

How to Spot a Scam

Scammers are getting more sophisticated, but there are still common red flags you can watch out for:

  • Unexpected contact: You receive a text, email, or call asking for personal or banking details.
  • Urgency or threats: Scammers may pressure you to act quickly (“Your account will be locked!”).
  • Too good to be true: Offers or prizes out of the blue are almost always scams.
  • Spelling mistakes or strange email addresses: Look closely – fake messages often contain errors or unusual formatting.

If in doubt, don’t respond – contact us directly instead.

Smart Habits to Keep Your Card Safe

Practicing simple habits can go a long way toward protecting your money:

  • Never share your PIN or card details – not even with friends or family.
  • Cover your PIN when using ATMs or paying in shops.
  • Use strong, unique passwords for online banking and update them regularly.
  • Only shop on secure websites (look for "https" and a padlock in the browser).
  • Keep your phone and devices secure with passwords or biometric locks.

If Something Doesn’t Look Right

Trust your instincts. If you see unfamiliar transactions or believe your card details may have been compromised:

  1. Contact us immediately – we can block your card and investigate the issue.
  2. Monitor your account regularly through our mobile app or online banking.
  3. Report the fraud to An Garda Síochána and to the Credit Union Card Services team if applicable.

Stay One Step Ahead

Our Carrick-on-Suir Credit Union App gives you 24/7 access to your account, so you can monitor transactions, freeze your card (if needed), and stay in control – anytime, anywhere.

Download the app today and bank with confidence.

Final Reminder

Fraudsters don’t take a day off – but with a few smart habits, you can stay one step ahead.

Protect your card. Protect your money. And if you're ever unsure, we're here to help.
